"I love that I can flex and change as needed and help organizations and purposes that I am truly passionate about." - Jolie Gray, Owner, The Purpose Box
Howdy Y'all! We're super excited to introduce you to Jolie Gray, the amazingly talented creator behind Purpose Box, a quarterly mail subscription box filled with purchase and purpose items. Each box also has a purpose. The boxes have supported adoptions, birth mother retreats, NICU nesting suites, and more!
In this blog post, we'll learn how Jolie began her business, her favorite part about running her own business and lots more.
Each shipment's contents are hand-selected and purchased for inclusion in the box. All of the items in the box have their own story, their own purpose. Each box also has a featured purpose. For example, the inaugural box featured a family from Austin, Texas, pursuing a domestic adoption. All proceeds from the box are donated to the featured purpose. We are excited to share more about Jolie and her philanthropic business. Read on y'all!
Tell us a little about your business and how you got started.
Early in 2014, I felt God stirring something in my heart. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I knew I was supposed to do something. I wasn't sure what. That July, on the way home from a family trip to the beach, I blurted out, "Purpose Box!" from the passenger seat.
My husband and I fleshed it out on the way home, and by the time we pulled into our driveway, I had a logo, email address, and social media accounts. I immediately started emailing organizations I already shopped with and friends who were adopting and might want to be our featured purpose. We have been shipping boxes since January of 2015.
What is your favorite item in the shop right now?
Honestly, I love that everything in our boxes is a surprise. Surprise mail is my favorite kind of mail, so it seemed only right that it would be part of my business model.
What is your favorite part of running your own business?
I love that I can flex and change as needed and help organizations and purposes that I am truly passionate about. I am so grateful that I am able to share ways others can make a difference.
What's the hardest part?
I can't tell everyone yes. We have way more featured purpose submissions than boxes available in which that can be featured. I see a need for everything that is submitted, and I wish I could help everyone who needs it.
What's one place that everyone must visit in Texas?
Oh, that's a hard one. I love so many places in our great state! I think I'm going to have to go die-hard and say Kyle Field, though. There is truly nothing like it anywhere in the world. Even if you're not a football fan, it's an atmosphere that can be appreciated and never replicated.
We hope that you've found some inspiration from Jolie's story. And make sure to visit her website to learn more about how you can get involved.
